Silence Part 2: Thanksgiving

As I get ready for our Lifeway Bible Study Skills small group, I continue to look at my second prayer verse:

Psalm 30:12 NASBS
That my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever.

My last blog entry talks about the Hebrew word translated as “silent”. The verse says to “not be silent”. So after almost 4 months of meditating on this verse, I know what’s coming.

This Sunday, I’ll play bass in the praise and worship team, something I haven’t done since 2003. But God’s has been preparing me for this for quite some time.

I didn’t understand or know what form “my soul may sing praise” to God in, only that He would reveal it to me when the time is right. I mentioned to Pastor Gerald that I wanted to get back involved with the praise team. I didn’t specify a date, only that I needed some time to practice and be ready.

2 weeks ago, he asked if I could fill in this Sunday. Of course I said yes. God’s hands have been all over this for months.

So this is a culmination of months and years of God’s preparation. With Christ, there are no coincidences. The time starts again to “give thanks to You forever”.

It happens that the phrase above is Hebrew “Hiphil Imperfect” (for you small group members). It conveys the thought that I actively cause the thanks (Hiphil), and that the thanks is never completed (Imperfect).

I’m so grateful to God that He hears me. I hope that my “sacrifice of praise” conveys my gratitude for what He has brought me through.

I think there is more to this. Next time!
