Fall 2024 Group
Biblical Skills Group: Here are some OIA from Session 3’s Assignment. Add some of your own Observations, Interpretations, and Applications.
Read Colossians 3:1-4, observing and interpreting the passage. Find an application (or more than one) for yourself. Why would you say that we are already in Heaven?
Colossians 3:1-4 NASBS
Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. [2] Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. [3] For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. [4] When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.
Observations and Interpretations
- If you have – not a guarantee
- If – then (in this case ‘keep’) a condition followed by a result: if you have been raised, then keep seeking the things above
- Raised up from what? The death and burial of our old sinful life ch2 v.12
Important Words or Phrase
Keep ‘Seeking’: Greek “zeteo”
Zeteo
– V: Verb
Grammatical Categories:
– Tense P: Present – its ongoing, not complete
– Mood M: Imperative – a command
– Voice A: Active – the subject produces the action – you do it
– Person 2: 2nd Person – you
– Number P: Plural – more than once
Where is Christ? In heaven with his father.
Application
- Seeking things “from above” follows being raised with Christ. It’s foolishness to think that the blessings of heaven are yours if you have not accepted Christ as your Savior.
- Seeking things of heaven is not a one-time task. It’s takes continuous work on your part to pursue heaven’s blessings.
