God is the God of both Hills and Valleys

It’s been a while since I last posted. Last summer my wife Darlene of 43 years went home to glory after a fight with pancreatic cancer. During one of her times in the hospital dealing with complications from chemo and medications, God had me reading in 1 Kings and the story of how king Ahab defeats king Ben-hadad and the Syrians. It reads:

1 Kings 20:23 ESV
And the servants of the king of Syria said to him, “Their gods are gods of the hills, and so they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they.

Here after king Ahab defeats the Syrians the first time in the hills, the servants of Syrian king Ben-hadad blamed their loss on the rugged terrain of the hills. They thought that they could defeat Israel and “their gods” in the plains where their horses and chariots could bring a siege. But God is a God of the hills and plains. He is God in all places and situations.

1 Kings 20:28 ESV
And a man of God came near and said to the king of Israel, “Thus says the LORD, ‘Because the Syrians have said, “The LORD is a god of the hills but he is not a god of the valleys,” therefore I will give all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the LORD.'”

What are you going through? Are you in a place where you feel God can’t reach you? Know that the LORD is a god in all situations, in the hills and valleys of your life. Rest in this, and “and you shall know that I am the LORD”.
