More Seeking and Searching for Silver

To finish up “Seeking” from the last post, let’s continue on with this idea of revealing.

This idea of not revealing God’s understanding before we are ready for it is also in the New Testament when Jesus talks to his disciples at the Last Supper:

John 16:12-13 NKJV
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. [13] However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

Jesus knows that the disciples couldn’t understand what was to happen, his death, burial, and resurrection (v.12), but Jesus would send the Spirit that would reveal “the truth” (v.13), the truth of God’s knowledge and of things to come.

Search

Search: Hebrew “bâqash” (baw-kash’), Verb, A primitive root; to search out (by any method; specifically in worship or prayer); by implication to strive after: – {ask} {beg} {beseech} {desire} {enquire} {get} make {inquisition} {procure} (make) {request} {require} seek (for).

The last part of Prov. 2:4 says to “search for her (wisdom) as for hidden treasures”

This searching is by deliberate intent, not by “stumbling upon”. It’s interesting that the Hebrew word specifies “by worship or prayer”. This is not something you do by your own power, but “beg, enquire, or request” of the Lord. Again we see that true wisdom is revealed to us by God, the author of all wisdom.

Why do we seek and search for wisdom? So that we gain more knowledge? This is answered later in Prov. 2:

Proverbs 2:10-12 NASBS
For wisdom will enter your heart And knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; [11] Discretion will guard you, Understanding will watch over you, [12] To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things;

The intent of God to reveal his wisdom to us is for our protection, specifically from evil. Godly wisdom preserves and protects:

Proverbs 2:8-9 NASBS
Guarding the paths of justice, And He preserves the way of His godly ones. [9] Then you will discern righteousness and justice And equity and every good course.

What’s you reasons to gain wisdom? Does it line up with what God intends?
