Seeking and Searching for Silver

Seeking and Searching for Silver

Let’s continue “listening intently and skillfully perceiving” His word:

Proverbs 2:4 NKJV
If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures;

Seek

Genesis 37:15 KJVS
And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou?

This passage of scripture begins Joseph’s ultimate capture by his brothers and selling him to the Ishmaelite traders.

1. Joseph is seeking his brothers, not knowing what was to happen to him.
2. Joseph was “wandering” not really knowing where to find them.
3. A “certain man” gave him direction to where they were.

Here’s a picture of believers:

1. We look for things and think we should know and expect a certain outcome.
2. Reality is that without God’s knowledge we’re wandering, “seeking”.
3. We need to be shown the direction.
4. God may or may not reveal some knowledge to us.

But this is a good thing, to seek God’s understanding and direction. It sometimes just doesn’t reveal itself in ways we can understand at the moment.

Would we have the same attitude as Joseph had back in verse 13?

Genesis 37:13 NKJV
And Israel said to Joseph, “Are not your brothers feeding the flock in Shechem? Come, I will send you to them.” So he said to him, “Here I am.”

Just as Joseph made himself available to seek his brothers without knowing the outcome,  God doesn’t reveal things to us that we are not ready for. If Joseph knew what was to happen, he would have never sought his brothers. Remember ultimately through Joseph the nation of Israel is brought through a 7-year famine. Joseph finally understands this in Gen 50:20:

Genesis 50:20 NKJV
But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive.
